POW ID Tag from Stalag IXA

Stalag (Stammlager) IXA was a POW Camp based in Zeigenhain which is now Trutzhain.

The camp housed upto 50,000 pow's by 1944.

This consisting mainly of Russian but from 1943 included interned Italian members of the Italian Military, considered as traitors.

Immediate Postwar it was used to house members of the Wehrmacht, the N.S.D.A.P. , The SS and SA.

Later German refugees from the east where housed here.

There now stands a museum on the site.
