Original M42 SS Single Decal Helmet Shell With Dome Stamp

This is an original M42 SS issued helmet shell.

The shell was used by the Czech Civil Defence after the war, having the liner replaced and the shell over painted with a textured black finish.

We obtained this helmet a few years back with the intention of refurbishing it for re-enactors use. However on removal of the internal black paint we found the original paint coat and the original factory inspection dome stamp.  Only 1 in 4 of all German helmets were inspected and stamped so this is a rarity.

We noticed that on the right side of the helmet there was a slight raise in the paint, so after careful removal of the top coating in that area we found the defaced remains of the SS runes decal.  We decided not to remove anymore paint and leave it as is for a future owner to decide how they wanted to preserve or restore this.

This helmet is stamped HKL66 and is in superb condition with no dents or pitting.

It is very unusual to find any decals on a re-issued German helmet, but to find the dome stamp and an SS decal was quite a rare find.
