Dated 18pdr Shrapnel Shell

This is a very nice early 18 pdr Shrapnel Shell.

Dated 22nd Febraury 1906, over 100 years old!

This was a dud that was de-activated probably within weeks of being fired.  There is no corrosion at all on the body and all manufacturer stamps are as crisp as the day they were put there.  This even has the original black paint finish on the shell body.

The base is also stamped up, with the bursting disc still inside the shell with one shrapnel ball.

Unfortunately, the aluminium nose cap has a split in it. It is a dual percussion and timed fuse. Also dated 06.

The nose cap screws easily on and off the shell body, the thread is perfect.  Possibly fired in the first months of WWI.

This I have had in my own personal collection for well over 20 years.
